I've played this since launch and the newest update is a travesty. The game has always been p2w but that price has gone up exponentially. What used to be $100 to get a new character now costs $400. There's new game modes that don't require strategy/skill but rather a fat wallet. They literally cap your damage output based upon how much you've spent. Then you have to wait 3 months to be able to use that character you spent $400 on in the "legacy" game. If you're considering playing this...don't.

The game has never been the most player friendly, but the recent updates are designed to make your stockpile of materials irrelevant. They changed new character progression to a system of pay money to watch bar go up. They introduced a new currency and many new materials just to further complicate the process. Oh, and the best part is even if you spend the $350-$400 it takes to max out a new character, you still have to wait 3 months from release to even use it outside of very limited modes.
I had played this game a few years and came back this year on a whim. I spent a little here and there and generally was enjoying the game. The recent update seems to have sapped all enjoyment out of it. Everything just feels like a chore now. The pathways to pvp success have been so narrowed in favor of those who pay that it gets rid of all strategy and relegates several in-game power modifiers to irrelevance. I think my time left in the game is limited. Definitely not spending again though.
